Our History

Our Notary Public, DATO’ AZMAN JAACOB is the founder of AJCHAMBERS. Dato’ Azman Jaacob has been admitted to the Malaysian Bar as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya on the 16th day of March 1990. In January 1994 a law firm under the name and style of Messrs Azman Jaacob & Associates was established in the heart of Metropolitan City of Kuala Lumpur. The Firm has changed its name to Messrs Azman Jaacob, Zuri & Co., Messrs Azman & Partners and Messrs Azman Sazira & Partners. In April 2013 Dato Azman Jaacob left Messrs Azman Sazira & Partners and in May 2013 he established LAW CHAMBERS OF AZMAN JAACOB.

The founder of AJCHAMBERS, Dato’ Azman Jaacob has been in the legal practice since early 1990 and in January, 1994 he founded a law firm under the name and style of Messrs Azman Jaacob & Associates in the heart of Metropolitan City of Kuala Lumpur.

The firm later changed its name to Messrs Azman Jaacob Zuri & Co. after the admission of Mr Zuri Zabuddin Budiman as a partner of the firm. In 2005, the name of the firm has been changed to Messrs Azman & Partners after its partners decided to divide the business of the firm into two separate law firms. In 2006, when the firm merged with another law firm, its name was then changed to Messrs Azman Sazira & Partners. In April 2013, Dato’ Azman Jaacob quit from Messrs Azman Sazira & Partners to establish LAW CHAMBERS OF AZMAN JAACOB

Who is Notary Public in Malaysia?

AJCHAMBERS offers Notary Public services for attestation of documents and notarization.

In Malaysia, a Notary Public shall have at least 15 years of continuous practice in the legal profession in Malaysia. Notaries Public in Malaysia are appointed by The Attorney General’s Chambers Malaysia and are governed by the Notaries Public Act 1959.

A Malaysian notary public has the same powers and functions as a notary public in England;

02.

A notary public may administer oaths and affirmations for affidavits and statutory declarations:

a. For proving the due execution of any document;
b. For matters pertaining to a sea vessel;

for the purpose of being used in any place or court outside Malaysia.

Powers and Functions of Notary Public

A notary public in Malaysia has the same powers as a notary public in England, by section 4 of the Notaries Public Act 1959. What are these powers? The following information is based on Vol. 31, Halsbury’s Statutes of England and Wales (4th Edition), Butterworth & Co. 1987. A certified notary public in England is able to:
*Affidavits sworn before a notary public and instruments authenticated by him are receivable as evidence in foreign courts.

Draw or prepare any instrument relating to real or personal estate, or legal proceedings;

02.

Draw or prepare any instrument or charge under the Land Registration Act 1925;

03.

Take instructions for or to draw or prepare any papers on which to found or oppose a grant of probate or of letters of administration;

04.

Take declarations concerning actions or intended actions for debt or accounts brought outside the United Kingdom within the dominions of the Crown, or concerning property situated in such dominions;

05.

Take declaration of an attesting witness to prove the execution of any will or codicil, deed or instrument in writing;

06.

Take declarations, oaths and affidavits relating to stamps;

07.

Exercise the powers of a commissioner for oaths (if the notary public is in London);

08.

Prepare deeds and documents to take effect in the overseas dominions of the Crown or in foreign countries;

09.

Verify and authenticate execution of deeds, documents, contracts and powers of attorney;

10.

Authenticate and verify examined copies of documents;

11.

Prepare bottomry and respondential bonds, average agreements and other mercantile agreements;

12.

Translate and verfy documents from English into a foreign language and vice versa;

13.

Draw foreign bonds and debenture stock;

14.

Act as commissioner for oaths under Commissions granted by Commonwealth or foreign authorities;

15.

In relation to bills of exchange: (a) present inland or foreign bills of exchange for acceptance or payment; (b) note and protest bills in cases of dishonour; (c) prepare acts of honour;

16.

Prepare “ship’s protest” and protest concerning demurrage and other commercial documents.
